What's New at DISC?

* New DISC subscription: Unicon CPS on Web / Current Population Survey, Annual Social and Economic Supplement (March) . Now available whenever you need it, without having to come use the CD-ROM at DISC! CPS on Web has a two-step login. First you will need to log in with your UW NetID and password, whether or not you are on campus. Then at the CPS on Web site, on your first visit you will need to do a one-time free registration, creating a login name and password for subsequent visits.

* See the latest edition of DISC News -- November 2008 (HTML) or November 2008 (PDF).

* Amazon Hopes to Cash in on Research Market (public data) and other recent data-related articles.

* New: Updated information on Restricted Data at DISC.

* Links to Country Statistical Yearbooks worldwide: a guide by DISC on the UW-Madison libraries website. 107 countries, and counting!

* The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), is accepting applications for its annual summer undergraduate internship program which will take place June 8 through August 14, 2009. For more information see the full description of the 2009 Summer Internship Program on the ICPSR web site; application deadline is February 2, 2009.

* The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) has announced two undergraduate research paper competitions for 2009. The first competition, sponsored by the general archive at ICPSR, invites research papers involving quantitative analysis of data from ICPSR. The second competition, sponsored by ICPSR’s Minority Data Resource Center (MDRC), invites papers addressing issues relevant to underrepresented minorities in the United States, with data to be drawn from the MDRC. Full details are online at http://www.icpsr.umich.edu/ICPSR/prize/; submission deadline is May 31, 2009.

* New addition to the DISC Archive: National Health Measurement Study (NHMS), principal investigator Dennis G. Fryback.

* New addition to the DISC Archive: Online Politics and Young Voters 2006: The Use of Political Websites by American Youth and Effects on Political Engagement, principal investigator Michael A. Xenos.

* Current Social Science Research Reports (CSSRR), weekly web-based current awareness reports in the fields of sociology, economics, and health, are now available on the DISC web site. Subscribe to the weekly e-mail alert, with links to the latest full reports!

* Check out what's new at other selected data sites.

* Check out our Internet Crossroads, providing searchable annotated links to social science data and information across the Internet. You can also see a list of the latest additions to the Internet Crossroads (last updated October 8, 2008).
